    Description

After the world  war in 1945 my Mother Ruth Elizabeth Marsh Kosan went to Panama to work. She was a R.N and worked for the United  states Government in the Canal Zone  and would work directly  with the Cuna Indians in the San Blass Islands my mother would teach the women how to care for their young children teaching them about Health and Nutrition she developed  a close relationship with the Indians and fell in love with the Textiles and started her Huge collection. In 1978 my mother retired and we had to leave Panama before I turned 13 for my citizenship we settled in Stockton California in 1979 and have been living here for the past almost 42 years and with us a huge collection of beautiful Textiles Molas. All of my collection are over 60 years My Mother worked in the Canal Zone for over 30 years and started her collection right away so i have molas that are over 60 years My beautiful mother past away in 2004 leaving me her collection my molas have been kept in containers packed away for years all in very excellent condition and are Vintage double sided Molas! one's of last of the primitive art forms: a craft passed down from generation to genaration. Mola is a Cuna word meaning dress or suit. This MOLA was stitched by the skillful hands of a Kuna Indian living on the San Blas Islands off the coast of the Republic of Panama.
