Cinnabar (Hue) - Handmade Oil Paint - 37ml

Description

This color is a deep fiery red. I am offering this color as my interpretation of the historical toxic color made from cinnabar. Cinnabar was mined from the earth and very popular in Chinese culture as well as renaissance painting. The main reason we no longer use this color to this day is because it contains Mercury, which makes it very toxic. Natural Cinnabar is slightly more dull than synthetic Vermilion, which is why I include marble dust and just the right amount of Alizarin Crimson in my hue to achieve just the right effect.
It is important to remember that for all of my legacy colors, I am using only non-toxic pigments. So this means that even if Cadmium is less toxic than Mercury, it cannot and will not be used in this hue. The main difference between my Cinnabar hue and the real thing is that the real thing is slightly more opaque, but I aimed to come as close as possible using non-toxic pigments.
All of my colors are handmade without additives. No driers, fillers, brighteners etc. Just pigment and oil.
